Pisay... Pisay the Movie

Okay... I am probably the last Pisay person to actually review/reflect (well, at least *kind of*) about Pisay... as in Pisay the movie.

I've watched the movie three times. Two times in the Cinemalaya film festival, and once in SM North EDSA. I don't know if it is just me and my attachment to Pisay a.k.a Philippine Science High School, pero siya ang pelikulang walang sawa kong panonoorin, ulit-ulitin ko man siya. (I am so redundant. About the movie... this is probably a very biased opinion because I am a Pisay alumna, but how can I not help but love a movie about my school?)

I not only love the movie because it is about Pisay, the school I went to for four years and come to love despite all the hardships it gave me. I love it because it shows the reality of a high school student's life; it breaks the stereotypes of high school sweet hearts, shows the reality of academic pressure and expectations, reminisces the friendship between fellow students, and a lot of other things that will take forever if I say them all individually. Also, it is not only about high school life, but life itself. My favorite lines include Mr. G's lines from his Bio class ("We do not change in order to survive, we survive in order to change.") and the narration of Minggoy in his scene with his Lola (It goes something like... "Ang buhay iba-iba. Ang buhay ng isa, limang buhay na ng iba... buti nalang, sa ibang dula ng universe, kung saan ang E ay equal to m c squared, hindi mahalaga ang iksi o haba ng panahon."

Aside from those things, I am once again inspired and convinced na ako ang kabataan na pag-asa ng bayan. My country needs change, like back then in the 80's, when Marcos was overthrown by people power. I am convinced that I went to Pisay for a reason, and that is to be the pag-asa ng bayan. Everytime I see or hear something related to Pisay (especially the movie), I want to do something for the Philippines. A lot of Filipinos want to get out of this place for good, pero patuloy na umaalab ang aking puso. This movie reminded me that because of Pisay, I love the country because it is where I came from and grew up with. Kahit na maraming bansa diyan na di hamak na mas maunlad sa Pinas, ito pa rin ang bayan ko.

On a lighter note, the movie made me more curious about Pisay and the history of our country back in the 80's. What's more, I want to know more about the teachers who were portrayed in the movie: Ms. Casas, Mr. G, Ms. Fanny and the Soc Sci teacher (I do not know her name)... especially Ms. Fanny, or Dr. Fanny A. Garcia in real life. If only somebody knows the desperation inside of me just to talk with her. Why so? Because I am studying in La Salle, and she is a professor there! I need to muster up a lot of courage to barge in to the Filipino Department just to ask her about her life in Pisay and the 80's. *sigh* Ang kapal talaga ng mukha ko. Hahaha. Wishful thinking. I do not even know how she'll react if I tell her I'm from Pisay and I want to talk to her... but who knows? I really want to know more about my school, and my country. LOL. ^^

Okay... this post is incredibly long already. To my Pisay batchmates, teachers and staff (that includes the librarians, the guards, etc), thank you for all the memories. To Director Aureaus Solito, Mr. Henry Grageda, the Pisay alumna who contributed stories for the movie... (and all the other people involved in the movie), thank you for making such a wonderful movie about our school, and thank you for making it such a great experience for me. ^^

My Cluttered Mind

My mind is so cluttered right now, I cannot make it process anything decent. I've just got too many thoughts to think about. (Woah. I sound incredibly redundant. =P) Anyway... summarizing my cluttered thoughts (Correction: I am not just redundant, but I am saying contradicting stuff. I am sooo ironic.):

*I've still got an informative speech about "Sagrada Familia" to finish! (due on Monday, Feb 11)
*Pisay the movie will be shown at "full-SM-cinema" glory on Feb 20 @ SM Cinema 6. (Endo will be shown at Feb 13)
*Can't wait for "Kite Runner" the movie! The movie hit US last Dec 2007, and I'm rotting to see the movie here in the Philippines...
*I need "Me" and "God" time! Tsk tsk. I need to learn how to budget my time.
*LEAP. Yey! Alternative classes! I signed up for the very underrated "Indie Sine"... I wish people would appreciate our independent films more...
*Filipino Weekly Journal Entry: "Ang papel ng pagsasalin sa debelopment ng Wikang Filipino." I wonder how I'm gonna write a reflection about this. ++ looky at the spelling of "debelopment". It *I'm so sorry to say* SUCKS. BIG TIME. Our language (Filipino) is incredibly deteriorating. Sa susunod, pupulutin na nga talaga ang Pilipinas sa kangkungan.
*Apo Hiking Society's Valentine's Day concert! Feb 22! Weee... some Filipino romance won't hurt, right?! ^_^

BTW, weeee. It's my first tablet scribble, thanks to my newfound gadget pal, Wacom bamboo fun. (Okay... I really think I'm sabog, sabaw, utak-toyo, bangag today.) Most likely I'll be scribbling more illustrations now. Yey. Till then!

5 days of freedom left... Last-day summer thoughts...

Here I am trying to make "everything" out of the 5 days of summer left. Yes, "everything", with the quote and unquote symbol. ^_^ I've been such a pig this summer. *oink* Like all the summers, I gained about 3-5 pounds because my lifestyle has been eat, sleep, surf the net, read. My, I don't even go outside of my house! My summer life is pretty much contained inside the four corners of my room or the lanai (something like a sala... only cozier... at least our's is.). This summer, we did not have any out-of-town trips, unlike last year and last last year, wherein it was so exciting. hehe. Our trip last year even involved my father getting mad with me because we were almost left by the bus (which will never return to that stop) in a foreign country in an ancient city wherein the only means of transport inside was through foot. Yeah, the bus waited outside the city. Hai hai hai. That was the longest run I ever had in my entire life. Imagine running from one side of a city to another while getting lost in between. harhar. I bet that would pass for a mini-marathon. Good thing that run was worth it... I receives a "prize", or rather, a "blessing" which was more than I bargained for! (For more info about that trip, click the post about it here. The post is entitled "Home at Last".)

I'm still desperately trying to finish Harry Potter book 5 before the movie airs (which is, about 3 months away. Thank goodness I still have time.). To the world: Please don't tell me I am so lagged. I know I already am. hehehe. MOM. Imagine, I got it in the day of the release itself, and 3 years after (Is it 3 years since the release? Correct me if I'm wrong.) I'm at page 200 something. So, what is Harry doing? He is starting to settle in the Gryffindor halls. ^_^

We went to watch Spiderman 3 last Monday, May 14. I like 2 better.. I don't know. The Sandman sidestory is quite "off" for me... and Harry shouldn't have died. T_T Why do bad (okay, he was originally good) people turned good need to die? He could have just used that "skateboard" of his to prevent Peter/Spiderman from being fork-stabbed by Eddie Brock/that-creepy-Spiderman-thing-with-shark-like-teeth. And... the ending is bitin. They should have ended it in Harry's funeral... or having Peter propose to Mary Jane or something. It would be better that way. =P

Hey, at least there are tons of movies I'm looking forward to in the months to come. Let's see.... Shrek 3 (which shows tomorrow!), Ratatouile (is the spelling correct?), Pisay, Harry Potter 5, and some others I saw in the movie posters/trailers. Should I watch Hairspray? Hmm... I'm thinking. Amanda Bynes is there. It must be pretty good. Oh, I don't know.

I wonder when I'll post again? Hopefully, within a week. hahaha. Oh yeah, If you are not doing anything decent in the computer, I suggest going to The Project. It's a Christian manga site geared towards teens and up, and the manga-ka are pretty good... okay, very good. hihi. You'd rather waste your time there than read something else in the net which doesn't help you at all. One shots like "Thy Name", found in "Misc Comics" are pretty cute, and also "Kingdom Come" and its sidestory, "Home". Well... that's all for my babling for now. Till then!!!
